After drinking alcohol, ethanol is oxidized to acetaldehyde in the liver by the enzyme ethanol dehydrogenase (ADH), and acetaldehyde is further converted to harmless acetic acid as a substrate catalyzed by the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2); ALDH2 is a key enzyme for alcohol metabolism in the human body, and a mutation in the ALDH2 gene has a common single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) site (rs671), which reduces the body's ability to detoxify acetaldehyde. Mutations in the ALDH2 gene reduce the body's ability to detoxify acetaldehyde and may increase the risk of diseases such as cancer. Therefore, SNP testing of the ALDH2 gene can be used to analyze the ability to metabolize alcohol by examining the type of ALDH2 mutation (wild-type, heterozygous, or mutant), and to guide individualized alcohol consumption to prevent disease.
This product is based on TaqMan MGB method and specially developed for ALDH2 gene, the 12.5X GenDiff SNP Primer & Probe Mix for ALDH2 Genotyping in the kit contains two different fluorescent probes, FAM and VIC, FAM fluorescent channel is used for detecting wild type (G type), and VIC fluorescent channel is used for detecting mutant (A type), which can be used with 2X GenDiff SNP qPCR Mix for ALDH2 Genotyping and Lysis Buffer in the kit.
